Before you upload

For cleaner stems
  • Start from the best file

A WAV or high-bitrate MP3 separates cleaner. Compression artifacts bleed between stems.

  • Use the full mix

Upload the finished stereo song. Live recordings and heavy reverb leave more bleed.

  • Pick only what you need

Karaoke or an a cappella only needs two tracks. Full stems take longer and cost more credits.

Hear the AI stem splitter before you try it

One song in, every part on its own track

Play the full song, then solo the vocals, drums, bass and piano it was split into. Midnight Transit is an instrumental, so it comes back without a vocals track.

When you need one part of the song, not all of it

Want to split a song into stems for a mashup, a beat or a rehearsal? Find the situation closest to yours and see which stems to take.

  • A DJ controller, headphones and a laptop showing five colored stem lanes beside a glowing pink vinyl record

    DJs and mashup makers

Two songs you love sit in the same key, but the vocal of one fights the chorus of the other. You want to blend them cleanly.

Take the Vocals from one song and the Drums, Bass and Other from the second

A mashup with one voice and one groove, not two competing mixes
  • A sampler pad grid, studio monitors and a laptop showing a chopped drum waveform next to a glowing blue vinyl record

    Beatmakers and remixers

A break, a bass line or a piano figure in an old track is exactly what your beat needs, but it is buried under everything else.

Take the Drums for a break, the Bass for a groove or the Piano for a hook

Loose parts you can chop, pitch and layer in your DAW
  • A bass guitar, a snare drum, a keyboard and a tablet with one muted track beside a glowing mint vinyl record

    Bands and practising musicians

Your drummer is away, or you are learning the bass line. You want the rest of the song to play while one part stays quiet.

Mute the part you play, keep the other stems running behind you

A play-along track that matches the real arrangement
  • A notebook, headphones and a laptop with five colored stem strips beside a glowing orange vinyl record

    Students and mix engineers

You want to know why a song feels so full. Hearing the bass alone, then the drums alone, shows how each part sits in the mix.

Solo one stem at a time, then bring them back together

A clearer ear for arrangement, with notes on what each part does

Four habits for cleaner stems

  1. Start from the best file you have. A WAV, FLAC or high-bitrate MP3 gives the split more detail than a low-bitrate rip.
  2. Compare each stem with the full song. Loop a few bars of a busy section and switch between the two.
  3. Expect a little of one part inside another, such as a hint of the kick in the bass. Stems are rebuilt from the mix, not taken from the original sessions.
  4. Use each stem for the job it does cleanly. If a stem has leakage, keep the original for that part of the song.

What it can do, and what it can't

Know the edges before you start, so every credit goes toward a song you can use.

What it can do

  • Split a song into stems: vocals and instrumental, or vocals, drums, bass, piano and other.
  • Pick only the parts you need with Advanced Stems, from lead vocals to kick drum.
  • Take a song up to 10 minutes, or 8 minutes for Advanced Stems.
  • Save every separated part as a track in your workspace.
  • Give your credits back if a split fails.

What it can't do

  • Only remove the vocals for a karaoke track. The vocal remover is the quick route.Remove Vocals
  • Promise studio-clean parts. Stems come from a finished mix, so faint bleed between parts can remain.
  • Play, edit or rebuild the stems for you. Use them in your DAW, or give them a new sound.AI RemixAI Mastering

Frequently asked questions

An AI stem splitter separates a finished song into its parts, such as vocals, drums, bass and piano. Each part becomes its own track, so you can remix, sample, mute or practise with it.
Upload a song or pick one from My Music, choose Full Stems, and press the button. When it finishes, every stem is saved to your workspace as its own track.
Full Stems returns vocals, drums, bass, piano and other. Guitar and any other instrument sit in Other. Choose Advanced Stems if you need a guitar, strings or a single drum on its own.
Advanced Stems lets you pick the exact parts you want, such as lead or backing vocals, acoustic or electric guitar, kick, snare or strings. You only get, and pay for, the stems you choose.
Often very clean, but not always. Stems are rebuilt from the mix, so a trace of one part can remain in another. Compare each stem with the full song before you use it.
Yes. Choose Vocals + Instrumental for a karaoke track and an a cappella. It costs fewer credits than Full Stems.
Up to 10 minutes and 50 MB, or 8 minutes for Advanced Stems. MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, WEBM and M4A files work. Higher-quality files usually give cleaner stems.
Stems carry the rights of the song you started with, so you need permission for it. For plan terms on usage, check the pricing page before you publish.
The credits for that split are returned to you. Try again, or try another version of the song.
